Pinetop with the Kiddos

29 May 2019

Here’s the understatement of the century: Summers in Arizona are HOT!!  The Teepee Lady and I are natives and have spent many a summer avoiding triple digit temps and lobster-colored skin.  Surprisingly, there are a lot of ways to beat the heat here, if you know where to look.  We like to take the standard pilgrimage to San Diego, like any other AZ family, but I like taking the kids to higher altitudes to escape the summer heat.

Pinetop, AZ is an awesome place to spend a few days/weeks with the family.  It’s only a couple hours from Phoenix, but it’s 20+ degrees cooler!! There is so much to do and the small town feel is great.  I even obtained a weeks gym pass so I could keep up with exercise routine while we were away.  We found an awesome deal and stayed at The Wyndham Worldmark Pinetop resort, where they had a game room, pool, several jacuzzies, basketball courts, tennis courts, horseshoes, etc…  Needless to say, when we were at the resort there was always something to do.  The rooms were mini-condos with washer/dryer and full kitchens. Makes the vacation much easier for families when you can cook and have plenty of room to hang out. We made some of our favorite meals as well as eating out at the local digs.

As for activities, there were tons!  We rented a boat and took the kids fishing at Big Lake. We rode go-karts and played arcade games at White Mountain Family Fun Park.  The mini golf was under construction but the go karts and the arcade area were great! There was horseback riding for Jaydan and Dana at Porter Mountain Stables.  To round out a fun-filled 5-day stay, the family also did some hiking and picnicking at Woodland State Park.

Stay tuned for more Teepee Family adventures this summer as we try to show our kiddos how beautiful Arizona is.  We will be checking out the Mogollon Rim, surrounding lakes and trails this summer.  Where are you heading to with your families this year? Be sure to let us know in the comments below! We are always on the lookout for the next great AZ Adventure.
